On June 14, the “Training Course on Land-based Aquaculture for the Maritime Silk Road Countries” sponsored by MOFCOM and organized by FFRC was successfully started in the International Conference Hall of FFRC. Deputy Director ZHANG Rui of Foreign Affairs Office of Wuxi Municipal People’s Government, Deputy Chief Yu Ying of Europe and Africa Division, and Director General XU Pao of FFRC, attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Chief JING Xiaojun of the Dept. of International Cooperation and Education of FFRC.
At the opening ceremony, Director XU Pao said that as the FAO Reference Centre for Aquaculture and Inland Fisheries Research and Training, and the Sino-African Joint Center for Modern Agricultural Technology Exchange Demonstration and Training, FFRC has long been committed to international cooperation and exchanges in fishery and has made important contributions to the development of global fisheries and aquaculture and the security of world food security. He hopes that participants can actively interact with Chinese fishery officials, experts and scholars, discuss the frontier issues of fishery modernization management, green and low-carbon ecological aquaculture system, etc. with the theme of land-based aquaculture technology, and contribute to the transformation and upgrading of their respective countries in the field of aquaculture.
Deputy Director ZHANG Rui hopes that through this training, with the help of the “Sino-foreign fishery exchange platform” of FFRC, the foreign exchange activities of Wuxi City will be deepened, more international production capacity cooperation projects will be carried out, and bilateral and multilateral cooperation with countries along the “Maritime Silk Road” will be promoted.
Ms. Victoria Silapea Muavae, Senior Fishery Officer from Bureau of Fishery in Samoa, as a made a speech as the representative of all the participants. She introduced the development status of fishery industry which is featured by tilapia farming and other related industries.
A total of 18 participants from 5 countries, including Ethiopia, Samoa, Thailand, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, participate in this 45-day training course.
It is also reported that on June 13, the “Seminar on Aquatic Product Trade and Market Development for Developing Countries” sponsored by MOFCOM and organized by FFRC was successfully held online. A total of 70 participants from 8 countries, including South Africa, Kenya, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia and Afghanistan participate in this seminar.
