FFRC Expert Team Visited the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Cambodia and National Bureau of Fisheries of Cambodia

From April 24 to 28, the expert team of the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences visited the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Cambodia and National Bureau of Fisheries of Cambodia.

At the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy, Counselor Wu Guoquan said that Cambodia is rich in fishery resources, and the suitable water surface and rice fields is large, but the utilization of resources is still in its infancy and has great development potential. He said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to agricultural and fishery cooperation with Cambodia, and under the background of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia and the 10th anniversary of the “Belt and Road” initiative, fishery aid to Cambodia will make positive contributions to building a “fish-rice corridor” centered on the northwest Cambodia and the Tonle Sap Lake area, and supporting the quality upgrading of advantageous industries such as aquaculture in Cambodia.

At the National Bureau of Fisheries of Cambodia, Deputy Director Kaing Khim reviewed the cooperation and fruitful results achieved by China and Cambodia in the field of fisheries, and said that Cambodia will provide all-round support for this research work; Deputy Director Hav Viset introduced the basic situation, development advantages, challenges and opportunities of fishery and aquaculture development in Cambodia, and said that the visit of the expert team will write a new chapter in China-Cambodia fishery cooperation.

Professor Zhu Jian, leader of FFRC expert team, introduced the overall objectives, planning, implementation content and implementation methods of the research work to Counselor Wu Guoquan, Deputy Director Kaing Khim and Deputy Director HavViseth. He said that with the support of the Economic and Commercial Office and National Bureau of Fisheries of Cambodia, expert team members promised to successfully complete the task and contribute to the construction of a China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era.

In addition, the two sides also had in-depth exchanges on the achievements of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation of FFRC, suggestions for fishery cooperation, international talent training, and research itinerary and specific content.
